This book is a compilation of cases, managed by the author during his clinical journey. The book is not primarily intended for the use of very academic dermatologists. It is meant for students of dermatology, dermatologists-in-making, practicing dermatologists as well as a group of academic dermatologists who perform patient care and pursue academic dermatology.
Each case is arranged in the same order as a physician would approach the patient – Clinical presentation, history, examination points, differential diagnosis, relevant investigations, diagnosis, and finally, actual management. The discussion on management of the cases may not conform to exactly what the textbook mentions; it is a discussion based on personal experience. This experience has been gained through years of managing pediatric patients with various dermatological diseases. In addition to the above routine headings, the author has included certain other aspects, which may be an important addition for the practicing dermatologists, such as “what should be the expectation of parents/patient, what should be the expectation of the doctor, what if the the disease is not treated, and a piece of advice to the parents/patients”. These questions help practicing dermatologists to handle the cases in real-life situations. The information presented through these questions helps one to make shared decision making; hence, the treatment experience may become more acceptable. Ultimately, our objective is to achieve better clinical outcome; at the same time, the journey to that goal should be a stress-free period.
Through the case discussion, the author introduces a roadmap that can be adopted by all dermatologists in the future so that the life of the patient/parents and the treating physician may be trouble and stress free!
